(Underwritten by ACE American Insurance Company)
For NNA Members
The NNA Limited Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan is an affordable alternative to comprehensive major medical insurance for members of the National Newspaper Association. This is not just a discount plan. It was designed to help people who pay the costs of their own health care and includes access to discounts on doctor and hospital services through the Beech Street PPO network and discounts on prescription drug costs. Participation in the plan is entirely voluntary for eligible AEA members.

FACT: The national average annual premium for traditional health coverage is $4,479 for a single person and $12,106 for a family. In comparison, the annual premium for a 35 year old in the AEA IS350 Plan is $1,092 single and $2,976 family; about a third of the national average.

More Americans are finding themselves without health insurance. In 2006, only 61% of all employers provided or offered health insurance coverage (down from 69% in 2000). The 47 million uninsured amount to nearly 16% of all Americans. This varies widely by state from a low of 8.2% uninsured in Minnesota to a high of 23.9% in Texas.(Source: PBS.ORG The Uninsured In America April, 2007)

Important Note: The NNA Limited Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan is not comprehensive major medical insurance. It is a lower-cost alternative providing fixed amount, limited benefits directly to insureds for the most-used types of medical services. The plan pays in addition to any other medical insurance the member may have. Please note, also, that the NNA Limited Accident & Sickness Plan is not Medicare Supplement insurance.

The young predominate among the working uninsured. Over 50% of the uninsured are under age 35. Among the uninsured working age population (18-64), 17.2% work full time, 22.1% work part time and 26.1% do not work. In fact, part-time workers make up 19% of the population but are 28% of the uninsured. Overall, of the 47 million uninsured Americans, 27 million have jobs (19 million full-time and 8 million part-time). (Source: National Coalition On Health Care 2007 Fact Sheet)

The NNA Limited Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan offers a less expensive, limited benefit solution for NNA members. For the working uninsured, this kind of plan is a major improvement, allowing access to a doctor or the emergency room when symptoms first appear.

FLEXIBLE - Three plans (IS200, IS350 and IS500) are available to allow members to choose the benefit level and premium payment that suits them best. A Dental option is also available. The Dental option can be added to any of the 3 health plans or selected by itself.

FACTS: - “Half of the population spends little or nothing on health care while 5% of the population spends almost half of the total amount (49%)”. (Source: The High Concentration of U.S. Health Care Expenditures” Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality website, Research In Action, Issue 19, by Mark W. Stanton, M.A. 2007)
- “Overall (only) 19.4% of persons had out-of-pocket expenditures greater than $1,000 and 8.4% had expenses greater than $2,000.” (Source: MEPS (Medical Expenditure Panel Survey) Statistical Brief # 126, May 2006 by Steven R. Machlin and Marc W. Zodet)

Important:  Limited accident & sickness insurance plans do not provide and are not intended to replace comprehensive major medical insurance. These plans are affordable alternatives providing fixed-amount limited benefits that are paid directly to each insured, or the provider if assigned, for many of the most often used types of medical services. Terms and conditions of coverage will be set forth in the group policy underwritten by ACE American Insurance Company and issued to the National Newpaper Association. Due to differing state requirements, benefits, terms and conditions may vary by state from this description.
